President's Message: March 2021

We are grateful that among the many destabilizing factors brought on by the coronavirus, our CAAAI Executive Board convened its first meeting of the new year by Zoom, on Sunday February 21, 2021. Our gathering was blessed with the additional presence of the three Advisory Board members, Dr. Frank Douglas, Dr. Myrtle Adams-Smartt, Former Guyana’s Consul-General to New York Ms. Barbara Atherly; and a newly appointed Board Member Ms. Grace Peters-Syfox. In the opinion of many, the full and enthusiastic attendance of all participants at the meeting seems to suggest that CAAAI is still a vibrant and purpose-driven alumni association that cannot and will not be daunted by anything, and that the hopes and goals of its members to ‘give back to Guyana’ are crystal clear.

CEO Dr. Desiree (Des) Deflorimonte and the current board, have approved changes in our system of operations that will encourage transparency and include voluntary participation from all alumni members and friends. The Executive Board now functions through a set of smaller groups we call Sub-committees such as, the Membership and Outreach Sub-committee, the Prayer Warriors Sub-committee, the Information Sub-committee, the Fundraising Sub-committee, and the Finance Sub-committee, to name those already formed. You can help your alumni board to name and establish other sub-committees, and/or volunteer your talents and skills to serve on a sub-committee by calling me directly on cellphone (240-328-7044), or emailing us/click This email address is being protected from spambots. Your information is confidential, and the appropriate board member will get back to you immediately. Most Sub-committees last no longer than 3-months.

Because you, the members, are the lifeblood of CAAAI, I will be chatting with you once a month every month right here under the caption - PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE. I encourage all 210-listed CAAAI members to interact with me by the email address above; send me your comments, suggestions, your prayers, or a shout-out to each other, anything on your mind you may wish to share, or even publish on the CAAAI Website or Facebook in accordance with our editing rules and regulations. Also, please tell others about the changes on our Website that include PayPal and CashApp methods of donating to your CAAAI, and encourage them to revisit the website frequently for up-to-date information and material. Thanks so much, and until we talk again, may God abundantly bless you and your family, and keep us all safe and healthy always.

Respectfully yours,
