On this Father's Day weekend and Father's Day in particular, your CAAAI's newly formed Men's Health Club (MHC) takes this opportunity to extend father's day greetings to all of our alums, their families, friends and supporters.
Amidst the ribbons and beautifully wrapped gifts intended for Daddies and Grandpas, and the sumptuous meals made with love especially for the patriarch of the household, we offer another focus today. Father's Day reflects the love and appreciation families have for the male of the human specie, it is unpretentious, noble, and long in tradition. We dads love the adoration and the honor brought forward by this day and time.
'Society Without The Father', a book written by Alexander Mitscherlich, in which its author ties the complex relationship between the loss of fatherhood to the enigmas created mostly by the Industrial Revolution, steel mills and chemical factories. Unlike today, we are losing dads to known diseases, infections, and chronic illnesses, some of which can be avoided or cured.
My alumni brothers, kindly take a superficial glance at the following numbers that threatens our future father's days celebrations: 12.1% of Blacks are diagnosed with Diabetes (Office of Minority Health); 55% of Black Adults in the U.S. have High Blood Pressure which leads to kidney conditions and stroke (American Heart Assoc.); 44.8% of Black Males have high or borderline high total Cholesterol (American Heart Assoc.); 39% of Black Males are reportedly under Stress (Pew Research Center); Two-thirds of Black Men over 40 years old experience higher risk of Heart Disease (American Heart Assoc.).
It's upon these and other daunting statistics, the CAAAI-MHC was born. The good news is that we can do something about them. We have the knowledge base and Subject Matter Experts right here in our Alumni Association who could speak to these life-threatening problems, answer our questions, and provide professional input for us. I pray that this Father's Day 2025, would find us refocusing on our best gift ever, our Health.
The CAAAI Men's Health Club will notify you of our first public Zoom Healthcare Session, scheduled for mid-August. I do hope you will join us and benefit from every discussion; we believe there is "Power in sharing Information". May you and your family enjoy Father's Day.
Sincerely,
Dr. Aubrey F. Bentham, President - CAAAI
