It is with profound sadness that the CAAAI family announces that 'A GENTLE GIANT' has gone home to his glory. William Oscar Agard Jr., known to many as 'Junior' or 'Scar', completed his earthly journey on Thursday October 19, 2023. Those of us who knew Junior would remember a man whose demeanor was represented by quiet speech, always well dressed for any occasion, maintained an air of absolute professionalism, and respected everyone he encountered. Scar was one of the CAAAI’s fundamentalist who was dedicated to the Association and its principles of 'Giving back'.

The Cambridge Academy Alumni Association International extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our dear Alumna Dr. Barbara Headley Josiah. Barbara, class of 1965, was an ardent supporter of the Association, and will be missed at our Reunion celebrations. The information available to the CAAAI at press time, is that the ‘Celebration of Life’ service for Barbara will be held on September 23, 2023 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, at Owen Brown’s Interfaith Center, CR2-D2, Sanctuary A, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia, MD 21045.

Your CAAAI know that words cannot explain or express how you and your family must feel at this time, but we all have a sense of your loss at the passing of your dear ones. This is the time when family and friends are meaningful as a sustainable force for each other, so the CAAAI hopes that in some small measure we could offer you words of encouragement, support, love, and peace.

On Friday July 13, 2023 the Embassy of the Republic of Guyana in Washington DC hosted a book signing event for Guyanese Scientist and Author Dr. Frank L. Douglas, who after a highly successful career in Medicine has published yet another masterpiece entitled, ‘Addressing Systemic Discrimination By Reframing The Problem.’ The event took on the atmosphere of a circular Think-Tank forum where carefully crafted questions regarding the book’s fundamental themes were asked and answered.

In response to one of several questions asked by the evening’s Moderator, Dr. Sandra Haynes, Dr. Douglas told listeners he was inspired to write this book following the murder of George Floyd, and how bystanders appeared to be limited in their abilities to effect a different outcome. Dr. Douglas said further, that the cynosure of the book was Equity and Inclusion instead of Diversity, the broader and more academically popular term. His reason as explained, was because equity and inclusion are measurable in organizations, and can be tracked to individual employee outcomes and performances to determine the extent to which discrimination in the workplace exist, and the degree of its negative effects on 'people'.
